For two decades John Conway has been searching for one of the most elusive things in the universe, the Higgs boson - a.k.a. the God particle - which gives everything in the cosmos its mass. In December, there were tantalising hints of its existence buried in the debris generated by the Tevatron particle smasher. Conway dismissed the blips as an aberration, just as many other supposed signs of the elusive particle have proved to be on closer examination. But the blips in Conway's data have so far refused to go away. Now, independent data from other researchers show hints of a novel particle with similar mass. The coincidence is striking, and it is getting physicists excited.. READ THE WHOLE ARTICLE
